It has been such a huge conversation in recent years, even more so since the pandemic. It’s no doubt that we are all taking it seriously and are trying to practice having great and positive Mental Health. The phrase “you are what you eat” couldn’t be more true! Your body is your temple and it should be treated as such. It is important to fuel your body with healthy food and drinks. When you eat healthily you will feel good from the inside out, you will be happier and will think positively. Also, it is important to highlight that healthy food is tasty; focus on what you can eat and not what you can’t eat. This is a reminder that unhealthy food is linked to heart disease, cancer and mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. So do your mind a favour and eat delicious healthy food.
Sometimes when thoughts are written down, it helps provide a better perspective. Keeping a journal is a great way to keep an eye on your problems and improve your mood by helping you organise your thoughts and prioritise your problems.
It’s a great way to track symptoms that will help you figure out what triggers you, and will help find better ways to control them. This is a great way to relax and centre yourself. Meditating has a huge list of benefits to your well-being, it helps to give you a sense of calmness, peace of mind and balance. Exercise is a big one because it has multiple benefits that improve your mental health. It reduces anxiety, depression and stress. It improves sleep, energy and your overall mood. It reduces weight and ultimately increases your self-esteem and cognitive function.
When you exercise, you release chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins trigger a positive feeling in your body, similar to that of morphine. You will be amazed how a new pair of shoes or a little black dress will positively impact your mood. So don’t be afraid to splurge on yourself now and then. It is proven that making shopping decisions can help reinforce a sense of personal control over your environment and can ease the feeling of sadness.
