As a teenager I was (still am) a big fan of knitting (I was really creative as a kid), knitting in class whilst the teachers were teaching, but as time went on, I grew out of it and found a new hobby. I used to make hats, scarfs, shawls and all sorts. it’s was a great bonding time for my mom and I, as we used to swap patterns and talk about what to knit next; and I suppose it was very therapeutic as well, but now my wools and knitting needles are hidden somewhere in my dads garage (I might I’ve to get them out!).
As many of you know already, well knitting fanatics not just your grandmas! “Old people” that knit, youngers do too!, it’s Wool Week next week 14th – 20th October 2013. And to celebrate, The Campaign For Wool team have partnered with John Lewis; John Lewis Oxford Street and Edinburgh will be running a week of Free fashion focussed knitting classes and drop ins sessions hosted by the UK’s most innovative and exciting knitting brands. Also at the event will be celebrity knitting fans Daisy Lowe and Oliver Proudlock (this should be fun!)…the classes is not just for women, they will have classes for men too with the introduction of “Men only” knitting classes to John Lewis for the first time. The class will be teaching them how to make beanie hats and chancy scar for men and children throughout the day.
Hosting the classes will be:
Erika Knight – with her background in the fashion industry will teach guests how to knit a detached collar and the art of plaid.
Rowan Yarns – will teach the art of chunky winter snood using a limited edition pattern devised speciality for Wool Week.
Wool And The Gang – will teaching the beanie hats and chunky scarf for men and children
Sue Stratford – will be teaching fair-isle jumper knitting for all levels (how great is that!? with christmas literally round the corner, it just perfect!).
Did I mention all skill levels are welcomed! so if you’ve never picked needles before or just getting back to it like me then this is your time to rekindle your love for knitting. I will be popping in on monday when it kicks off (so make sure you say hello if you’re around) More information here
